celebratingamazingwomen: Eartha Kitt (1927-2008) was a prolific actress and singer, known for her many chart-topping hits, as well as for her role as Catwoman in the Batman TV series. She was nominated for a Tony Award several times, and won Daytime Emmy Awards. She was a member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, and an anti-war activist, as well as a strong supporter of LGBT rights.

She turned into a loud voice within the Civil Rights Movement of the 60′s releasing songs such as “Mississippi Goddamn” which was in response to the assassination of Medgar Evers. In response to Martin Luther King Jr’s death, she released “Why the King of Love is Dead.”
